An attractive 1837 silk embroidered family coat-of-arms with contemporary letter of provenance.
Considering that this piece is nearly one-hundred and ninety years old, its overall condition and the vibrancy of its colours are remarkably good.
This finely embroidered silk is accompanied by a contemporary letter of provenance - written on a form of parchment - pinned to the back of its modern framing. It reads: "Sherratt" Family Cout of arms. Worked in silks by My dear Mother - Mary Ann Sherratt (late Holdsworth) - in the year 1837 at no. 3. Stepney Green Terrace. Stepney Green E. From a drawing by her Son, Thomas Sherratt".
Overall, this is a lovely piece of social history from the year Queen Victoria ascended the throne.
