By the UK Registered Design ('Rd') mark, and five digit number on the reverse, the piece dates to circa 1887. 

Before 1889, all Rd numbers amounted to five figures. After 1889, six numbers were stamped on the reverse of such objects.

The item's condition is commensurate with its age.
