An interesting and 'honest' circa 1944-1945 hand painted wooden shield displaying Field Marshal Montgomery's 21st Army Group insignia.

Formed in July 1943, under the command of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF), 21st Army Group comprised British 2nd Army and 1st Canadian Army. The spearhead of Operation 'Overlord', the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944, this formation fought thereafter across North-West Europe, finally being disbanded in August 1945.

The shield - which measures 7.2 inches long and 5.2 inches wide - is in very good condition considering its age, and is a nice WW2 collectable.
